Dry Ridge, Grouse Point and Cripple Creek

08/24/2008 - 9:00am

The snow has finally cleared and the Grouse point and Cache Meadow trails
are ridable!

Aaron, Steve, and others who like true adventure rides are going to do the
Estacada trails. Meeting at Gateway park and ride (typical place) at 9am.
The ride in superb and dry conditions with two riders takes four to four and
one-half hours. The ride if the roots and rocks are wet and there is a
group will take at least five-hours.

So if we get to the trail and take off at about 10:30 or so we will be
finished at around 3:30 to 4:00. I love the brew pub in Estacada (food is
actually reasonably priced) and we may even have time to stop and still get
back to Portland by 6pm.

Caveats: This is a rugged, extremely challenging trail system. The first
part of the ride is 9 miles of climbing and over 4000 vertical feet. The
second part of the ride goes through rock and streams, then single track
that is found only by sighting the ribbons. This is true single track and
at many points is very narrow with exposure. There are multiple areas that
you can get hurt. I would recommend bring a bandage.

If you like climbing and do not mind a trail that will is very technical
then this is the VERY BEST RIDE THERE IS! it is my favorite.

See you at the Gateway at 9:00am on Sunday.
