Gorge/Mt Hood - BIG RIDE

Start: 08/30/2008 - 9:00am

End: 08/30/2008 - 5:00pm

OK…By popular vote the date for the “BIG RIDE” is officially pushed to Saturday 8/30.

The Ride: Shuttle ride starting at Bennett Pass parking area off Hwy 35 (4700 el.), climb up to Gunsight Ridge (5,500 el.), ride toward High Prairie, take Trail 450 down through Bottle Prairie, then climb through part of Knebal Springs to Surveyors Ridge(4,000 el.). Upper section of Surveyors will be our connector Dog River Trail. The Dog River downhill will be the fitting end to a great ride (2500 el.). We will finish at the bottom of Dog River where our shuttle vehicles will be parked and stocked with coolers full of energy drinks, food, and beer.

This is an all day adventure at a semi-fast pace, with several climbs. Consider yourself warned…

Skill Level: Advanced / Gonzo

Mileage: at least 35+ if we don’t get lost (hint – always bring your map)

Meeting Place & Time: 9AM (goal to be starting the ride by 10)

Five advanced riders have confirmed that they are planning to attend this ride.

With the latest moisture the trails will be dust free. The local Forest Service Ranger has confirmed that the trails are in great shape and clear of obsticals. In short, we are in for a great ride.

FYI - I hear that there is a Portland car pool: Gateway transit center south lot at 7:45 AM. Target departure is 8 AM. I will be meeting the rest of the group outside of Dog River Coffee in Hood River at 9 AM.
