Smith Creek, Mount St Helens work party

08/23/2008 - 8:00am
08/24/2008 - 4:00pm

Want to help get some trails in shape for a planned gonzo ride?!  Need to put in some sweat equity for your PUMP points?  Want to help maintain some trails in a very special area?  Just want to help out, just because you're that type of person?  Well, here's your chance!

PUMP and the Mount St Helens Institute are scheduling a two day work party on the Smith Creek trail on Aug 23 and 24.  Although we are a bit short on details we will be working up there two days.  You can work one or both days.  But we do need your help in maintaining one of the premier trails open to us near Mount St Helens.

Please let me know if you would like to attend the work party. Thanks for your help!  David Anderson.  e-mail: ujelang at aol dot com.

meeting place on Sunday

Revised 8/23/08

For Sunday's ride and work party drive to the Marble Mountain Snow Park, north-east of Cougar, WA.  From there you will have to ride east on Forest Service Road 83 to the trailhead located between the Ape Canyon trailhead and Lava Canyon Parking Lots.   The trailhead is easily seen from the road behind boulders designed to block motorized four wheeled vehicles.  Descend in to Smith Creek and take a left at the bottom.  Ride up the trail about four or five miles.  Cross Smith Creek on a conveniently located log and continue on the other side up the trail.  You will eventually run in to us working at clearing brush!  There will be a 10+ mile ride before we start putting in the sweat equity!

See http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/6544546 for a map to where three of us will be camping.

Saturday meeting place

Please let me know if you are interested in working on Saturday.  There are several options available for areas we focus on, which means several options for meeting places/times.  Both options do involve some riding before we work.  Please let me know if you are interested.  We do need your help!
