06/07/2008 - 8:00am
06/07/2008 - 4:27pm

Save this day: June 7th, Saturday

Jim Thorton would like our help openning the trails on the East side of Mt Hood. I suspect will meet in town (8am at Gateway?) to car pool to the Road 44 area. Details to follow.

call John 503 201 9505 if you plan to join us.

Jim writes:

Hope you guys can make this work party. We'll do some tread work on featured trails on the Barlow Ranger District.

44 road has open up with 2-3 feet of snow still in the trees at the 4500 ft level.
450 trail/8mile trailhead are snowed in.

We can get to the eastern most end of k springs where the 3 creeks are. So we may do work in that area depending on snow melt. There's plenty to do, i have more rock to move. yuck..

8 mile campground / pebbleford c.g. are open and free of snow.

I'll keep you guys in the loop on where to meet etc. once the date get's close.

Thanks Jim

Here you go folks!

Mt Hood National Forest, Barlow Ranger District
National Trails Day
Saturday, June 7th
Meet at Dog River Cycles, on Highway 35 in the town Mt Hood at 9:30am
http://www.dogriver-cycles.com/

We'll decide on projects based on the number of people who show up.
Expect to do some tread work on the Knebal Springs trail, and brushing on the DaKine trail.

Bring your favorite trail tools, rakes, shovels and loppers.
Please bring bike helmets and gloves, wear long pants and good supportive shoes or boots. Also, bring a lunch and something to drink.

We'll work from 10 to 2ish. Folks wanting to work for a few hours and then ride, hike etc., go for it.
Every little bit helps.

Last I checked there is still snow on most trails. You may be able to complete the Knebal/Bottle Prairie Loop and maybe part of 8 mile. It has been logged out to snow level one as of one week ago.

Thanks, and hope to see you Saturday,
Ranger Jim

Gas = $$$$! Carpooling from Gateway

I am hoping to get some carpooling going out to Dog River Cycles from Gateway. I think if we met at 8 and tried to be on the road at no later than a quarter after we'd be good for time. Would also be interested in bringing bikes along for post-work riding if anyone else is. Email or call
