Ride: Buck Creek Trail

05/10/2008 - 8:00am
05/10/2008 - 2:00pm

I'm interested in checking out the Buck Creek Trail.  I have never ridden there!  It would be great to have folks on this ride that have been there before, but if not it will be somewhat exploratory on my part.  We'll plan to carpool from Gateway Transit Center, south parking lot not near the parking garage and not gated (See map below), and depart at 8:00am.

Plan for several hours of riding, with climbing and descending.  Bring water and food and appropriate clothing.  A change of clothes for the ride home is nice too.

I plan to attend a birthday party and the mountain bike movie at the Clinton Street Theater and will be back in town in the early afternoon to allow time to get cleaned up before the movie.

Please RSVP so that I don't leave without you.

re: Buck Creek Trail

I'm in, Ryan.  I live in Vancouver so I'll see if Chris B., who also lives up here, wants to ride and carpool together.  If not, then I'll see you at Gateway.  Which parking area?  South or north?  Will be in touch with you before Sat. morning regardless.

Sorry, forgot to link in

Sorry, forgot to link in the map.  For future reference, when I meet up at Gateway Transit Center, I like to meet at the south parking lot.  This is the parking lot that is not near the parking garage and is not gated.

This is going to be a great day of riding!  See you all there.

re: Buck Creek Trail

Thanks, Ryan.  No word from Chris yet.  See you at Gateway.

Need A Guide???

Ted D

I am currently in the Gorge on vacation and I am available to be your guide.

I am the site steward for this trail system and I know this trail like the back of my hand.

If you meet in Portland 8 AM you can be at the trail head by 10AM.  This allows you enough time for you to meet, load up, and travel.  I will not have internet, but I will plan on meeting you at the trailhead at 10 AM.

I can be reached at 503-819-2761.  PLease call me and let me know if you are coming.

Directions: From Portland take I-84 to Hood River. Take exit 64 & cross Hood River Bridge to Washington. Turn left onto Hwy 14, drive a few miles, Turn right on the road just before the bridge (sign says Hwy 141 / Trout Lake), follow road to the end, go left as it merges with Hwy 141. Drive about 2 miles, turn left at the sign for Northwestern Lake. Follow road & cross over the bridge.  Meeting place is at the main Buck Creek info board located at the four way intersection with Buck Creek Road, Lakeview Road, and Nestor Peak Road.  You can't miss it.
