For everyone interested in the Syncline area near White Salmon & Hood River:
Attached is a letter from Area Manager Dan Harkenrider describing the Proposed Action for the Burdoin Mt, Coyote Wall, Catherine Area RecreationPlan. Comments are due by May 22, 2008. This proposal begins the NEPA process for this plan. The next step will be to gather your comments, create alternatives to the proposed action if issues drive the need to do so, and then send out our Environmental Assessment (EA) for another 30-day comment period. A decision is expected by the end of September.
If you'd like to learn more there's a discussion on Camba's website:

These maps are interesting. I am guessing that many of the green trails that are designated to be removed from user access are on private land - one that is on the map looks to be the Coyote Canyon trail that we have ridden the past few times of going out there.
I am interested in knowing CAMBA's and IMBA's stance on this. I am confused as to why some of the trails are designated for hiking use only. Hopefully we can get a download soon as to what the status is on this plan and on comments that have been formally filed from mountain bike organizations.
