Newcomer

Hi,

My purpose for posting is twofold.  One: I'd like to get some advice on gear I will need to buy so that I will be properly prepared to ride in Oregon.  Two: I'd like to connect with riding buddies.  I typically ride during the weekdays while my son is at school.   I'm in my 40s & am an intermediate level mtn biker.

My name is Angella and I'm going to be relocating to the Bethany area this summer.  I currently live in Simi Valley in So. Cal. and I mtn bike 2-3 times a week.  Being naive about Oregon, I'm worried that I will have to give up the sport for at least 1/2 the year and I would prefer not to do that.

Any advice is appreciated.  I hope to see you on the trails. :-)

Sincerely, Angella

Oregon is wet and I would suggest fenders and rubber booties to keep your feet warm.  Being that you are new to the area, trail maps would be good.

Welcome to Oregon.

I am sure you will enjoy your extended visit.

Thank you for your advice

Thank you for your advice Ted.  I appreciate you taking the time.

Welcome!

Most definitely you will want to invest in a pair of fenders and booties and/or winter riding shoes (Lake, etc).  With proper gear and trail selection, you can enjoy mountain biking in Oregon all year long.  Of course, this state is so great you can do just about any outdoor activity year round.  The best piece of advice is to put your gear on and just go - don't let the weather hold you back.  And, always bring a dry change of clothes for after the ride!

Come ride with us when you get here!  There are lots of folks that ride during the week, as well as women's groups that ride.  We'll show you trails, point you to our favorite shops, and can provide tons of other great local knowledge!

Thank you for the advice!

Thank you for the advice!  I will be in touch when I get up there.
