McKenzie River Campout

06/27/2008 - 7:00pm
06/29/2008 - 6:00pm

Join PUMP on the first and most popular campout of 2008. This is one of the best trails in Oregon and keeps us coming back every year.

The ride is a 25 mile one way shuttle or a 50 mile out and back for the brave at heart. It starts out with some very enjoyable technical rock sections. This is followed by miles & miles & miles of great flowing single track.

What to bring:

  • Camping gear for a weekend
  • Swimsuits for a trip to Belnap Hot Springs
  • Bike and Helmet
  • Firewood

What to expect:

  • A great Mountain Bike Ride
  • Fun times around the campfire
  • There are bathrooms and water but no showers.

How to find us:

  • Paradise Campground: 4 miles east of the town of McKenzie Bridge.
  • Google maps
  • We will be in campsite #38 and will have a couple of others picked up.

On Friday we will meet up at campsite #38 at 9:00 PM to discuss the next days ride planning.

Campsite Reservations?

Hey, Has PUMP reserved the group campsite spots yet? If so what space #'s are they?

Campsite Reservations

I have reserved spot #38.  The ones John C. has been reserving were already taken.  Number 38 is the one we typically get though.

Campsite Reservations

Yeah,

It looked to me that all of the reservable sites have already been taken.  Here's the link for the reservations if anyone is interested:

Campsite Reservations

Hmmmm ... Looks like we waited too long to get a campsite. The only other option is Oolalie, but that's farther away than we want to be from the PUMP Posse. We're probably going to either camp or room at Belknap (which is what we do when we're solo) and ride on down to take part in the awesome PUMPster fireside fun.

I am soooo excited - This trip is soooooo fun!
Thank you, Shane, for continuing to organize!

Only Some Are reservable

There are only so many reservable sites.  The rest are first come first serve.  We will grab a couple of more when we arrive.

New to the group...

I'm new to Portland and am looking for a fun group to go mountain biking with.  I have heard great things about this trail and would love to join up with you guys for this.  Is there anything in particular I need to do?

Thanks!

Tammy

Bring your gear..

Tammy,

Bring your camping and biking gear, food, drink, etc.  PUMP supplies the camp site, firewood, and ususaly someone who knows where were going on the trail.  Monitor the list serve and the forums for carpool information.  We generally meet at the camp site Friday evening, although a small group will be down there earlier Friday to stake claim to some camp sites.

Fred

Firewood - Swim Suits - Etc.

PUMP supplies all that Fred mentioned above, but *not* firewood. Only a couple of us brought it last year. Please do bing a bindle or two with you. It's a long way to get it and it is always used.

Also: Don't forget your mosquito repellant and big container of water. We will go to Belknap Hotsprings for showers and a soak after the ride, so bring a swim suit if you wish to get in on this action. There is a nominal fee for this. Other than that, there are no shower facilities at the campground.

Come prepared to have some fun, 'cause this ride trip is the bomb!

McKenzie Pass - Santiam Scenic Byway road ride on Sunday

If the snow level isn't super low, I'm going to do a road ride on Sunday up the McKenzie Santiam scenic byway. It should be closed to cars, the question is how far can you get up before you hit snow. Its a fun climb thats not too steep.

Sunday ride at McKenzie

I'll be doing a road ride probably on Sunday too.  I think we're in campsite 3?  Not sure, and I'm not sure who DRW is, so look for a black Soma Double Cross bike with silver fenders and Paniers.

MRT Carpool Ride Needed!

PUMP Member Danielle J. is looking to hitch a ride with someone down to MRT Friday after work. She lives in the Beaverton/Hillsdale area, but can rendezvous at whatever meet location the driver needs.

If you've got room in your rig and are looking for a carpool rider/gas contributor, e-mail her at vlvtgrrl@comcast.net

She was going to ride with JD, and I, but we're leaving early Friday AM. Currently we have one other rider w/ room for one more. We will be leaving from SE Holgate/39th with S-Bux in hand Friday at 9:00 AM.

Other Rides Near McKenzie

Does anyone know of some other trails to ride near McKenzie? The closer to Paradise cg the better. I've heard of Kings Castle & that looks like it'd be good.

Carpooling questions??

I have never been on this campout weekend, but it looks like it is a full weekend event.  I am limited in time and will be heading down Friday afternoon and need to return on Saturday night.   Does this schedule fit into anyone elses plans and if so do you want to carpool?  Let me know.

I am excited to get out and ride some new trials!!

 Aaron

carpool available

I'll be driving down I-5 from Vancouver, WA on Friday afternoon and can accomodate one person who would like to carpool. I can pick up along the interstate corridor. On Sunday sometime, probably early afternoon, I'll head back north. If this fits your schedule, and you have a standard front fork (not a thru-axle), then let me know. Thanks.

What time is the ride on Saturday?

Looks like you guys haven't planned what time to ride on Saturday? Or did I miss something? I'd like to come down on Saturday morning, with room for one or two more, but ... let me know if you're interested in joining me or if you know what time folks will be hitting the trail on Saturday.

Thanks,

Chris

Saturday Ride time

Chris,

We generally decide the ride time the night before the ride (Friday night).  There will likely be two groups, an out and back and a shuttle group.  I would suspect the out and back group will get started earlier and the shuttle group by about 10am.  Thats my guess.  I think it depends on how much beer is consumed Friday night.

Fred

How to find you guys...

I'm planning to come down tonight after work so I may be arriving in the dark.  Is it pretty obvious where this group will be?  I don't know anyone yet so...if anyone has a cell phone number, that may be nice to have??  :~}

Looking forward to the ride!

Look for camp site 38

The main group of people will be there to discuss the ride Saturday.  I have never been there either so I can't give you any other specifics.

Fred
