The anticipated and once postponed ride to Smith Creek, Mount St Helens is
again being postponed/cancelled because of snow pack issues. Even though the
trail on Smith Creek would be snow free, the road to get to the trail head is
still most likely under quite a bit of snow which would force us to hike a
bike for a few miles in snow.
So, I've decided to do the Eight Mile Loop and Bottle Prairie Loop trails
east of Mount Hood instead. I rode Eight Mile trail yesterday (for the first
time ever...) and it is in great condition.

We will be brushing out some areas, cleaning up debris and water bars. Possible Rolling work party on the bikes and/or a ride following. I'll probably also clean up the parking areas.
Scope out the 450 to see if we should send riders up it on the following weekend.

We will attempt to do the Ape Canyon/Smith Creek loop. This is an epic ride that will be tough because of the distance and elevation gain/loss involved. I think the snow should be mostly gone by this weekend because of the warm weather. If it hasn't, we will always get in a good ride by doing a Smith Creek out/back. Total miles because of the extra 5 miles on paved road will be about 45.
Please advise if you will be going. You can e-mail me at ujelang@aol.com, or call me at 503 772 0471
